Unofficial Well Survey

The Cowichan Valley is now at Drought Level 4, and that’s as high as it gets.

The Fire Dept. is interested in how many wells on Thetis are dry now, at low levels or underproducing, as this affects our operational thinking in case of a large scale fire.

Please email firechief@thetisislandfire.ca with your location and well production info.

We will post a general description next week that might be of interest for water conserving.

Many thanks, TIVFD

Needed: help with sewing machine tension and foot alignment

I have a Pfaff 138 industrial sewing machine eating thread and needles. In my amateur troubleshooting I think it may be a tension and foot alignment issue. Is there an Islander with experience that would be willing to help me fix the situation so I can continue my sailboat dodger project?

Soup's On ~ Volunteers Needed

THIS IS A REMINDER!

To make it another successful season we need more help and involvement from the community. Some of our cooks and team members have fallen by the wayside or have moved away from Thetis Island. If you are interested in volunteering please plan to attend our start up meeting on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14th, 9.30 am in Forbes Hall.

Please be sure that your calendars are marked for this event as this is an important time to get new information, select your preferred dates and team members. This meeting will be followed by a kitchen protocol meeting for any newcomers or those who would like to refresh their memories.

We need cooks, team leaders and kitchen helpers. For every "Soup's On" event we must have a person in the kitchen who holds Food Safe 1 (or above) Certification to be responsible for making sure that all Food Safe protocols are followed.. This does not necessarily have to be the cook although it is preferable.

Please read the following information re FOOD SAFE.

Food Safe Certification that was acquired prior to July 29th 2013 expired on July 29th 2018. To re-certify it will be necessary for you to do a refresher course. Refresher courses and for those wishing to take Food Safe for the first time you can access them online by going to:

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/keeping-bc-healthy-safe/food-safety/food-safety-courses?keyword=food&keyword=safety&keyword=courses

If you have questions or need more information feel free to call or e-mail  Don (sinry@telus.net  or 250-246-4291), Dee (donella123@aol.com), or Shirley (burrleyshir@gmail.com or 250-246-1816)

Here is the manufacturer’s link:http://www.waspwildfire.com/

Contact Jeannine at chief11@telus.net to order.
