ThINC - September Issue of The Ripple

Albeit a quieter summer, ThINC hosted several events, including community science activities, gatherings at the People's Apothecary Garden, and workshops and presentations led by members of the community as well as visitors.

This issue of The Ripple touches on two of our summer events: sea star monitoring and a book launch.

Andy Lamb shares his observations and expert take on sea star wasting disease.

And Ann Eriksson provides an uplifting review of author and environmental advocate Sheila Harrington's recent book: Voices for the Islands: Thirty Years of Nature Conservation on the Salish Sea.

Happy reading!

Pick-up on Salt Spring Island

Hi...

If anyone is going to Salt Spring Island, I have a small cobbler’s bench that needs picking up.

I would be most grateful if someone who is going there could do that for me.

Stamps for BC Cancer Society

I would like to thank all the Thetis Islander folk who are putting their used postage stamps in the wooden box (which was kindly donated by Heather Hunter) on the table at the mail pick up area.

These stamps go to the BC Cancer Society to help fund their ongoing support of BC cancer patients and are greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Terry Harvey

Goosey Gander Shop: Open Saturday & Sunday 10am to 4pm

Come on by and check out the giant size framed Monet print,
or the sweet little kitty cat piggy bank,
or the really nice solid wood bread box

and all the other dozens and dozens of interesting and useful items brought in by fellow Islanders.

Lost and found note: Someone left their water bottle on a counter here last Saturday; it is orange with a grey lid.

Have a wonderful weekend and hope to see you at the Shop.

Thank you,
Nan Beals

Pick-up Order at Rona?

I was wondering if someone could pick up an order for me at Rona at the south end of Nanaimo on Friday?

TIA, Ralph Smith.

Coastal Fire Weather Forecast

Tuesday to Saturday: Fall-like pattern continues through next week. A zonal flow will continue to decrease fire behaviour. Another frontal system builds off the NW coast on Tuesday and has the potential to give widespread and significant moisture throughout the Coastal Fire Centre.

Coastal Fire Zone Office

This will most likely be the last weekend weather posting from the TIVFD. We hope you found this information useful during the summer months.

A reminder that you can start yard waste burning on October 1st with a permit and on GOOD Venting Index days.

Blinders for Hens

We have, I believe, 16 sets of blinders for hens if anyone needs them.
