Coupon Book Fundraiser

This is Caleb Galbraith. I’m a grade 12 student at Duncan Christian School.
Until October 22nd, DCS is selling coupon books as a fundraiser for our grade 12 Mexico missions’ trip, and I was wondering if anyone would like to contribute?

Each book contains over $4,000 in savings at businesses in the Duncan, North Cowichan, Ladysmith, Nanaimo, and Parksville area. Each book will cost $35 to purchase.

Health Talk Series #2 - Climate Change & Respiratory Health

Speaker: Angela Eykelbosh, PhD, Environmental Health Scientist, Island Health

As our climate becomes warmer and drier, the increased frequency of droughts and wildfires will have implications for air quality both inside and outside our homes. This session will provide an overview of recent climate projections for Thetis Island and Penelakut and will discuss the implications for respiratory health. We will discuss some practical options for reducing exposure to particulate matter, using tools such as low-cost sensors, air cleaners (including DIY air cleaners), and clean wood burning practices.

Dr. Eykelbosh is an environmental health and knowledge translation scientist, previously working at the National Collaborating Centre for Environmental Health and BCCDC. She holds a PhD in Resource Management and Environmental Studies, as well as previous degrees in physiology and toxicology. She is also an alumna of the Bridge program at UBC, an interdisciplinary research training program that unites public health, engineering, and policy. Her areas of interest include land-water-climate interactions, the environmental health implications of climate change and environmental public health emergency preparedness and response.

Post Office Open Tuesday Oct. 14 Regular Hours

Canada Post has made an agreement with the union to reopen on Tuesday. The union, however, will be doing rotating strikes. The only difference this makes to us is that the delivery times can be 3 to 4 days later than normal. If your parcel gets caught in a distribution centre that is in a rotating strike, there could be delays. All mail will be delivered. Mail will be sorted on first in first out. New mail may face some delays until the back log is cleared

Hours of operation

· Monday to Friday

· 1000 AM to 0500 PM (closed from 1200 to 1230 for lunch)

· Saturday

· 1030 AM to 0500 PM

· Closed holidays

· TDG Thursdays: Some TDG Thursdays we may be gone for about 20 minutes around 1100 to get the mail at the ferry to help the deliverer get back on the ferry.

Services

All regular postal services except bill payments and any type of money transfer. We do not have the resources to offer this service.

Red Drop Box and Post Office Boxes

· Mail is sorted into the Post Office boxes between 0900 and 1000 AM each morning

· If you want your mail to go out on a given day have it in the red box before 0900 or bring it down to the Post Office before 1100 AM

· EXCEPTION: Mail is picked up at 0900 AM on Friday therefore it you wish your mail to go out Friday get it into the Post Office (NOT the red box) before 0500 PM Thursday

Mail and Parcels

· According to regulations we are only supposed to keep mail and parcels for 2 weeks then we are to send it back. Obviously, we have not been doing that. If you are going to be away longer than 2 weeks, please let us know length of time so we can hold your mail. Depending on the length of time there could be a fee charged for parcels.

· Please bring parcel tags to facilitate retrieving your parcels

If you choose to put your on-island letters in the drop box, please advise the people you are leaving them for that they are there. If you want the post office to distribute your on-island letters, put them in the red mailbox. The Post office will NOT be checking the drop box. We take no responsibility for the use of the drop box.
