Ride Needed from Nanaimo to Thetis

I'm traveling back from Europe on Monday 13th January, and I was wondering whether anyone was driving from Nanaimo to Thetis that afternoon and could give me a ride?

I'm landing in Vancouver at 12.30 noon so will probably be in Nanaimo around 5pm.

Thanks :)

Yoga Changes

Good Morning and Happy New Year!

I am so excited by the possibilities in 2014; are you?  What were your affirmations for this year?

Was one of them more exercise, better food choices, improved sleep habits, better health in general?  And have you begun to make changes?  Well you are cordially invited to come and try yoga this year.

In the last three years here are the biggest improvements I have seen in myself since committing to a yoga practice.

1.       I  am truly happier at a deep level.

2.       I am stronger and more flexible.

3.       I still have some body pain, however I am able to locate the area and often stretch and release the muscles that are tight and painful.

4.       I have better balance.

5.       I am making healthier food choices.

Do you want this?  Come on out, it can be intimidating to come into a class and be uncomfortable at first, however we create a fun class of laughter, stretching, honouring our bodies and only doing what we can.

There are changes:  Tuesday is an ongoing, more intermediate class – generally best for someone with a little yoga experience.  9:30 – 11:00 am.

Thursday is your best class for just starting, we will go back to the basics and be gentle and slow with a gradual increase in stretching and strengthening.  9:30 – 11:00 am

** Important note:  I have moved the chair yoga to shorten the class and make it a little later in the day.  Chair yoga is great if you have limited mobility, if you are healing from surgery or illness, it is gentle and fun.  Denham Kelsey (my most regular participant)  and I have truly enjoyed growing in balance, deepening our breath and enjoying our peaceful time exploring our own inner world.   We would love others to experience the joy we feel from our time together breathing, moving and opening.

Chair Yoga:  Tuesday:  11:15-12:05 (45 minutes) – Very Gentle Yoga

New:  Starting Next week – Wednesday 7:00-8:30 pm –a night class for relaxation.

Watch for more on this, later this week.  We will start this one January 15th.  This will teach you about chakras, colour, hormones and so much more as well as your poses and meditations for peace and happiness.

Take care, please call Dawn Gordon @ 250-246-9212, or email:  dawn_gordon@telus.net  if you are interested, but a little nervous about coming out.  We can always do a private class together to see where you are and modify some of the poses to meet your specific needs.

Namaste and hope to see you on a mat in 2014!!

Warmly, Dawn

Recycling Yard Notice

This is the first in a series of notices about restructured operations at the Recycling Yard.

Volunteers
The Recycling Yard seeks innovative, cheerful and hardworking friends ( that would be volunteers) for a 2-3 hour play date (every week? every month?). Activities include sorting games, visiting with other friends and neighbours and warm feelings of accomplishment. Sometimes snacks and music are provided; singing not mandatory. Interested? Why not sign up your pal too? Contact Vicki Walker (250-246-9126) for more interesting details.

Baler orientation training
We have a specialized piece of equipment at the yard, the "baler", to compact certain recycled materials to facilitate handling and transport. A baler machine operator is ideally supported by a yard volunteer who helps feed the baler and moves bales. There are six openings available for a baler orientation training session to be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. , to be followed up by baler operational experience during open-hours at the recycling yard. Please contact Henry Benskin (250-246-1212) if you would like one of the training spots.

Paid jobs
A very limited number of hourly paid jobs will be required for re-structured yard operations. These jobs will be advertised on e-Spokes in mid-late January, and successful applicants will be hired through TIRRA. Anyone interested in applying is encouraged to take the baler training session.

Thank you, and please stay tuned for additional notices concerning the Recycling Yard.

Thank you to Sandy , Matt Hess, and Ann Erikkson for transferring the library collection information to the library computer.

Library users are now able to access most of the collection of adult fiction and non-fiction.  The instructions for use are on the bulletin board near the computer.

Ann is adding the DVD collection titles to the data base.  Please do not shelve your returned DVDs as we are checking them to see if they are already in the data base.
Thanks for supporting your local library.
