The Goosey Gander Shop is Open 10 to 1 Today, 10 to 4 Tomorrow

The Shop will be closing earlier today due to the important meeting at Forbes Hall regarding the future of the well-loved Thetis Island Quarterly. On Sunday the Shop will be open again with the regular hours of 10am to 4pm in case you can’t make it by today.

Among other new arrivals, an old solid brass cymbal from St. Louis has come into the Shop, along with some lovely and interesting jewelry, a huge set of white dishes including casseroles, a Spanish espresso set, glass bottle cheese trays, a couple fun vintage tin farm signs, and a beautiful very high quality reproduction of an artwork by Modigliani. It seems as close to the real thing as possible so it’s well worth seeing, and for some lucky person - bringing it home! Hope to see you at the meeting this afternoon and at the Shop sometime this weekend

Vandalism at the School

We are disheartened to let the community know that the art installation of stepping stones, which had been created by past students and formed a circle around the apple tree, were vandalised sometime over the summer. Someone took two random stones out of the ground and smashed them to pieces in the nearby woods.

We thought the community should be made aware of this.

Last night (Wednesday) about midnight someone was shining spotlights around the harbour this time not from a boat. When houselights came on, a pickup backed out of Lot 60 driveway at speed spinning tires.

Possibly pitlamping deer?

If you heard shots, please inform your neighbours. This is unsafe.

Noticing this beautiful light and with the Autumn equinox approaching, I'll be teaching a soft breath-led morning flow on Saturday, listening to some tunes, starting slowly before building into a quietly uplifting sequence. Open level class, with options to soften or progress depending on how you’re feeling.

Call Out for Thetis Island Calendar (2027) Photo Submissions

Looking forward to seeing this year’s collection of fabulous photos!

Photo Submission Information

Requirements and information for submitting your photos.

Meeting these four requirements will help to ensure your photo makes the first cut.

1. Photo file size - minimum of 1.5 MB: if you take photos with your phone, email the photo from your photo app not through another app such as Facebook. Note that photos will be cropped to landscape orientation, edited as needed and enlarged to 8” x10” for printing.
2. People: no identifiable people will be included.
3. Local images: must be of, on or from Thetis.
4. Focus: check that the image is clear and in focus – if using a phone, enlarge the image to check before sending.

Note: Calendars are landscape-oriented, it is important when a portrait-oriented photo is submitted that the file is large enough to have good definition once cropped to 8.5 x 11 landscape-orientation.

Cut off for submissions is September 14th.

Include the following in your email:
• Your first and last name (not all email addresses let us know who you are).
• Location or identifier: where the photo was taken from, what the photo is showing, etc.
• Month photo was taken in.
Limit of eight photos from each photographer, choose wisely! Separate into groups of no more than three per email.

All submitted photos are given with your permission to be edited, used in the calendar, displayed, or used in any other way that benefits Forbes Hall Community Centre. All will include photo credit.

Proceeds benefit TICA and Forbes Hall.

Available in November 2026 for $30.

Ray Smith

Longtime Mariner Ray Smith passed away at 82 on Sept. 5th in Duncan where he lived for a year. He retired from Times Colonist as a Photojournalist and moved to Thetis Marina in his sailboat. He visited Thetis for many years and made many friends.

His celebration will be announced in the near future.
