Farewell Dave Finlayson

It is with a heavy heart I write this.

A memorial for our dear live-aboard friend, Dave Finlayson—known to many as “Hollywood Dave.” Dave was a true fixture at our marina. Though a quiet presence, he formed meaningful connections with staff, boaters, islanders, and anyone who took a moment to talk with him. Many of us shared memorable conversations with him, and his steady, familiar presence became part of the rhythm of marina life.

Tomorrow will be especially difficult for those of us who grew used to greeting him as he walked through the doors at opening time. His absence is deeply felt.

This Friday, from 6pm–8 p.m., we will gather for a celebration of life in honour of Dave. All who knew him are welcome as we come together to remember, share stories, and celebrate the gentle spirit who touched our community.

Safer Walking for All

Now that winter is here and dusk comes early, it's getting harder for drivers to see pedestrians on or next to the road, especially if the pedestrians are wearing dark clothing.

If you're out walking or jogging, please wear -- and encourage any visitors to wear -- a light-colored top, and preferably a reflective vest.
