The People’s Apothecary Garden - Plant of the Week #19 - Fennel

Ever wondered why you often find a bowl of fennel seeds at an Indian restaurant? A spoonful not only helps to cleanse the palette but also aids in digestion after you’ve gorged yourself on a heaping plate of tasty tikka masala. In addition to providing other medicinal benefits, fennel can also be eaten - specifically the bulbs of cultivated varieties. The fennel at the PAG is now back in full force after being accosted by a visiting deer last year - and is open for harvesting!

New Phone Book Reminder

For all those who are "summer people" and maybe weren't on the island when the first notice went out, the new 2024 Thetis Island Phone Books are available for sale, either from the Post Office at Thetis Island Marina during their open hours or from me directly if that works better for you.  Or if you see me in the car on the ferry, I usually have some in the trunk!

Call or email me if you would like to do it that way.  Still only $5.00 each.

Parade was Fun!

Thank you all who participated in the Thetis Island Community Parade on Saturday. We were delighted to have Allison Flack lead off the parade traditionally with her bagpipes and we hope she will join us again next time when we need an excellent piper. Andy Lamb, riding shotgun in the Water Tender counted over 230 people who came out to watch the parade. Although the parade was pretty diminutive this year for entries it was enjoyed by the spectators tremendously. Sparky handed out many treats, and even Aurelia’s horse Bolt left some treats for gardeners on the road as well. Tess DeMarco’s flaming red Fire Bug was definitely a hit, and all the parade walkers waving warmly in the heat deserve a special thank you too. In the place of honour, in Engine 1 at the front of the parade (driven by Fire Lieut. Norm Kasting) was Rohan Kamath and his sister Arana, and I am sure they will have a sore arm from their enthusiastic waving. Let’s do this again in a couple of years (last one was 2022) so you have lots of time to plan on your entry.

Thetis Island Pub is Still Hiring

Hello!

Thetis Island Marina and Pub still have some open positions to fill.

We are still looking for a Cleaner for the property and are also looking for a dishwasher/prep person to add to our kitchen.

Cleaner - would clean the suites when customers have checked out, the marina bathrooms, and the pub. Hours would be flexible and open to change depending on how frequently the suites are being used and your availability.

Dishwasher/Prep Person - does dishes in the kitchen along with doing food prep, making salads, and generally supporting the kitchen team.
This person does not need to be over 19 and they do not need any previous kitchen experience as we're happy to train.

Hours would be Thursday to Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoon and evenings.

If you are interested in either position, please email us at thetisislandresorts@gmail.com, call us at 250-246-3464, or stop by the pub and say hi!

Hope to hear from you!

Free Slip'n'slide

I purchased a slip'n'slide for my friend’s visit with her children (6 & 8yrs old). It’s 16 feet long. It was great fun for a few days. I would like to pass it on to anyone with little children. FREE
