Save the Date: Health Talk Series #2 - Climate Change & Respiratory Health

Wednesday October 15th, 2:00 - 4:00 pm
Forbes Hall

Speaker: Angela Eykelbosh, PhD, Environmental Health Scientist, Island Health

As our climate becomes warmer and drier, the increased frequency of droughts and wildfires will have implications for air quality both inside and outside our homes. This session will provide an overview of recent climate projections for Thetis Island and Penelakut and will discuss the implications for respiratory health. We will discuss some practical options for reducing exposure to particulate matter, using tools such as low-cost sensors, air cleaners (including DIY air cleaners), and clean wood burning practices.

A presentation of the Forbes Hall Health Services Group. For more information please contact:

Goosey Gander Shop Closed this Weekend Only

Unfortunately I have a cold and don’t want anyone else to catch it so the Shop will be closed this weekend.

But be sure to visit during in October as many of the Vendors will have reduced prices on their items for the final two weekends.

The Shop will be closing for the winter on October 13th.

As the days get cooler and shorter, put a sweater on, get lots of sleep, and drink your orange juice.

Thank you,

Nan Beals

Back up to HIGH Danger Class

Sadly, none of us, including the TIVFD, has much influence on the weather and environmental conditions for the Fire Danger Class rating. All the reporting fire weather stations around us have moved back up to HIGH HAZARD and as of Wednesday morning we are back up to HIGH.

This means that until further notice (and some more rain!) we are going back to Early Shift for High Hazard Activities. Please shut down by 1 pm and post a 2-hour fire watch. Have water and tools at your job site.

We may get some rain by Sunday or Monday to drop us down to MODERATE again, but dry conditions continue until then. Thanks for being fire safe this summer (and Fall).
The solid fuel Campfire Ban is still in effect until the end of October. Propane campfire appliances are allowed and great for those cool evening marshmallow cook-outs as you watch the sun set.
