Friday, January 26, 2024 at 8:04AM Looking to purchase a used rigid (not inflatable) SUP or any old paddle board. It is for kids to use on a beach where oysters and barnacles abound. Does not need to be in great shape. Fair shape would be fine. email to dslade@telus.net

Friday, January 26, 2024 at 8:04AM A number you never thought you would need to call. But I did.
Calling 911 was the only way we were going to get Tom the help he needed. Tom was very sick and the look on Chief Caldbeck's face told me he needed medical care and the sooner the better.
Calling 911 will be one of the most important decisions you'll ever make. Do not wait and see how you will feel the next day. If I had listened to Tom he may not have been here the next day.
Once the paramedics pass on the patient to the ER team all you can do is sit and wait. By 1:30 am the nurses suggested that maybe I should go to a hotel and try to get some sleep. Because I went with Tom in the ambulance to the Cowichan Valley Hospital I had no car to come and go to the hospital. I needed a ride.
Not only did the nurses arrange a hotel room for me but they called a company called This Rides 4 U. A lovely lady picked me up at the hospital and took me to the hotel with grace and a slice of pizza.
I needed a ride to Chemainus the next day so I called the above folks and for $40 plus tax they drove me to Chemainus.
To contact This Rides 4 U call 250-732-5898 or their website: <www.thisrides4u.ca>
If you have to leave your home in a hurry, this is a list of what you should take with you.
Medical Card
Cell Phone
Credit Card
Clothes and shoes for the patient if they were wearing PJ's.
Toothbrush and toothpaste (I have a bag with travel size toothbrush).
List of medication of the patient (do not take your vials of meds to the hospital)

Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 9:06AM The Lawrence Trail (Community Trail) is fine from the Mission Road end but from the Kenwood end it’s passable if you’re wearing boots. Please use the temporary detour to avoid the flooded portion.
The Lawrence Valley Loop is closed from the fire hall through the meadow bottom to where the Jollity Trail joins it but the rest is open. Thank you to Ian Ralston for cutting a passageway through a downed tree.
The Jollity Trail is in good shape and through it, you can access the rest of the Loop Trail.

Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 8:22AM A BIG THANK YOU to Everyone who came to our medical rescue last week. Capernwray came instantly to my call for assistance as did the Thetis Island Paramedics and Fire Department.
Chief Caldbeck leads an incredible team and Chris Fordham is to be commended for his special group of staff and volunteers.
Thetis Island is a remarkable community where neighbors care about each other. We feel very blessed to live here. Dave is resting comfortably at home now.
