Looking for Thetis Island Photos!

Forbes Hall Community Centre – Fall Fundraiser

A calendar showing islanders' favourites spots and views of Thetis is being created, and your photos are wanted!

Do you have a special photo that says “Thetis” to you? A view you wake up to, a hidden gem you walk to, or a place where you sit and contemplate life, or a view that stopped you in your tracks? A series of 12 photos will be made into a calendar for a Fall Fundraiser for Forbes Hall.

A range of photos will be chosen, to show Thetis off in all her seasons. Please send in a photo you’d like to share with others and help to raise funds for Forbes Hall. The calendar will make a great gift for family and friends.

Please provide the month, year and location the photo was taken, as well as your name as photographer.
Do not submit photos of identifiable people. By sending in a photo you permit TICA to edit as needed and use the image for the calendar with net proceeds going to TICA / Forbes Hall Community Centre.
Send photos to info@forbeshall.ca if you’d like to help us out with this project. All submissions received by September 30th will be considered.

Kelowna SPCA

Well done Thetis Island! The Kelowna SPCA staff were speechless. Since I have heard from people who couldn't make it to the Saturday Market last week, I will be at the market this Saturday to collect more donations.

Besides the bandanas, coats and signs I will be trading cucumbers and or flowers for your donations.

If you have already donated, thank you.
See you Saturday September 2nd. 10-2

Combined "Busy Ferry" Schedule Updates

Please note that the combined "Busy Ferry" schedule has been updated to include the current plans for the Capernwray school year starting in September. The schedule can be found at https://www.thetisisland.net/ferry/current-combined-busy.pdf, which is also linked from the homepage of thetisisland.net.

So this is a good time to remind any other groups or individuals who expect to have a large number of people or vehicles on the ferry on a given run, to please let me know so the schedule can be as useful as possible.

Thanks!

Well-Cistern Services

We are planning a trip to Thetis for Wednesday September 13, we would like to let other community members know should they require any services while we are on the Island. We know arranging service on the smaller Islands can often take some time, William has us booked for a couple hours and we will have time for 2 - 3 more service appointments.
We do well, pump, cistern, filtration, service and maintenance - water testing and more.

Please let me know if I can provide a bit more information, if anyone is interested they can call me or email.
Thank you,
Kristi

Audree Rees – August 31, 1926 – August 27, 2023

Audree Rees, wife of Pete Rees who passed away in March of 2022. Audree was an expert sailor, a pioneering woman and long-term resident of Thetis Island, Clam Bay Road. She passed away August 27th , 2023 at The Hamlets in Duncan, BC. A celebration of life will be held at Forbes Hall at a date to be announced. A fuller story of her life will be included in the next Quarterly. We hope Thetis Island residents will take a moment to think of Audree and Pete. They surely loved their life on Thetis Island.

Rural Islands Economic Partnership (RIEP): Survey

RIEP is asking island and coastal community residents who volunteer, have a business or a job on a rural island to take a short survey about the impacts and opportunities related to economic activity on BC's rural islands:

www.riep.ca/impact

Survey is open until Sep 22!

WHY THEY'RE DOING IT

Your feedback can help us all learn more about on-island businesses, their activities and practices, and the support they need to adapt to the future changes in the region.

WHAT THEY'LL DO WITH THE RESULTS

Once the research is complete, RIEP will deliver a full report to the provincial government, along with recommendations on funding, programs, and other resources needed by BC’s rural island and coastal community businesses.

WHY IT MATTERS

Based on these recommendations, RIEP hopes to secure new funds to bring the recommendations with the most ‘impact potential’ to BC’s rural islands…and to be part of the change we want to see in the world!
