Seeking Cat/House-sitter in late Dec./January

We live on Thetis each fall/winter but will be going away during the holidays and for part of January. We have two friendly cats who we're hoping to find someone to keep company while we're gone. Our home is a cozy rustic 1 bedroom cottage with woodstove (must be comfortable using a woodstove) and is walking distance to ferry. We'll be away from Mon. Dec. 26th until mid to late January (end date flexible). Arrangement can be suited to your needs (i.e. if you would like to be here the entire time or if only available part of the time or on semi-regular basis that could work well too.)

Perhaps you have family or friends visiting during the holidays or in January that extra accommodation would be handy for?

If interested or know someone who might be, please contact Dano at
info.danocutts@gmail.com or text/call 250-423-0800 (cell service spotty so please leave voicemail if you phone.) We can provide more info/set up a visit.

Thanks so much and happy holidays everyone.

Tree Damage at the Forbes Hall Playground

An Arbutus fell and destroyed the playground slide at Forbes Hall Community Centre.
Caution tape will be applied as a reminder, until the replacement slide can be received and installed. The remainder of the playground structure is untouched - but there is no slide!

Thanks, Ron Bannister, for your clean-up of the mess, and making the playground neat as a pin. You’d hardly notice anything was wrong - except for the missing slide!

Avoid a Fire Hazard: Charging your e-bike indoors?

Please consider the fire hazard of recharging your e-bike indoors.  There have been dozens of fire deaths in North America related to lithium battery fires this past year.  Lithium-ion batteries can become very dangerous when:

  • Batteries are over-charged
  • Different chargers than the ones manufacturers provide are used
  • People make their own batteries or combine components
  • Batteries are tampered with or damaged
  • Lower-quality batteries are purchased, often from online sellers

Be safe, and follow the bike or scooter’s manufacturer’s instructions for recharging, and find a safer spot to recharge your batteries than overnight inside your home.

Here is an article from NYC regarding E-bike fires but you only need to google E-bike fires in Canada to read about more tragedies closer to home:

Post Office Update

The Christmas rush is here, and things are back on track.  Zola and Fred are crossing over on one another's shift to keep caught up.  So, you may see us there at the same time for some parts of the day.

As we have mentioned previously, we would appreciate the following from now until the middle of January (should cover the Christmas return rush); we are asking that you give us 1:30 to 3:00 PM to give us a clear space to sort parcels.  Even with this time we will be doubling up to make sure we have everything sorted in a timely fashion.

PO hours for the next month:

10:00 AM (when access through the liquor store is open) until 5:00 PM

9:00 to between 10:00 and 10:30 AM sorting at the mailboxes.

12:00 to 12:30 lunch break

1:30 PM to 3:00 PM PO closed for sorting parcels.

It appears some people are getting salty about us trying to have clear time to sort.  If not, we will continue to get behind until you may be picking your parcels up in January.  We are doing the best we can with a staff of one.  Even with the dedicated sorting time we still have to overlap to stay even.  This is only going to increase over the next 2 weeks.

Hope Santa Amazon has what you are looking for
