Registered Massage Therapist

For all Thetis residents, my name is Jennifer Nielsen and I’m an RMT and I have practiced in Chemainus and at times at Forbes Hall on Thetis for several years now. Starting July 31st, I will be renting my own space again in Chemainus at 9847 Willow Street. Since I will have my own space, I will no longer be coming over to Forbes Hall to practice, but I am expanding my hours and am happy to welcome new patients at this time.

Online booking can be found through my website at www.jennifernielsenrmt.com

Chemainus Medicine Pickup Today - this Evening! (Friday)

Could someone please pick-up a prescription for me at the Rexall on
Willow Street (opposite the post office) in Chemainus? They are open
until 8pm.

We don't have an account there so you will have to pay for it, but it
shouldn't be expensive and we can pay you back when we get the prescription
from you.

We can meet you at the ferry or come to your home, whichever is easier.

If you can help, many thanks!

Attention: Walkers, Runners, Cyclers, Strollers, Pet Owners and Drivers

Thetis Island is a rural location with narrow roads, little infrastructure, elementary school children, wildlife and some tricky blind corners and driveways. Roads are shared for recreation as well as commercial and residential vehicles. This all adds up to an extra level of caution and attention required for all users. Please be safe, follow signage, and anticipate there is always someone or something else sharing the road. When accidents happen here, it is a tragedy felt around the island.

Are you interested in sharing your ideas to identify roadway danger hotspots, road safety education, better signage opportunities?

Please contact Wendy Hinsperger: alexwendy@shaw.ca

ThINC Nature House - Today's Activities - Friday, July 21st

10:00 am start

Young Naturalists: Magnificent Mosses!

Location: The Nature House at The Portal, 254 North Cove Road

There’s a tiny, wet and wonderful world at our feet - mosses! Mosses are like forests of their own. Learn about how mosses function, identify different kinds, and discover the amazing habitat they create for other species. We will also be learning how to propagate mosses for your garden and building moss terrariums together. Join us to explore the moist, magnificent, minute world of mosses.

2:00 pm start

Expert Excursions: A Model for Sustainable Living with Matthias & Jutta Zapletal

Location: 313 Forbes Road (please park along Margaret’s Lane or Forbes Rd. facing North Cove Rd.)

Since moving to Thetis in 2019, Matthias and Jutta Zapletal have been developing the space they call home - not in the traditional sense, but instead with an approach that seeks to work with the land, mimic natural processes, and utilize renewable energy resources in creative and inventive ways. From using the energy generated by decomposing organics to heat their home, to planting elephant grass and native willow to filter their water, and installing a magnificent geodesic dome - Matthias and Jutta's homestead is an inspirational model of what we can do to lead a more sustainable life. Join us to learn about the various projects they have going and be prepared to be inspired!

Membership and donations help to support our programs and the work we do within and for the community! If you are not already a Friend of the Nature House, consider becoming one to access all of our summer Nature House activities:www.thetisislandnatureconservancy.org/_files/ugd/a5ed41_53ec1339b8a941f68db62dcad757070f.pdf

Let’s Hope They Are Right…

Here is the Coastal Region fire weather forecast for the weekend. I like the second last sentence…let’s hope they are right, and we get some rain! :

OUTLOOK: Saturday to Monday: The Pacific upper low will dominate the weather pattern. It will wobble slowly closer to the coast while spawning a series of fronts that cross the fire centre. Each successive system will progress a little further south. Conditions will be mainly cloudy, showery and cool from N Island to Haida Gwaii. The south will see more cloudiness, cooling each day and an uptick in RHs. Models show possible rainfall down to Sunshine Coast and Mid Island on Saturday. A stronger front on Monday may bring some rain all the way through the Fraser zone and S Island. No lightning is expected anywhere in the fire centre through the period.
