Forbes Hall Library

Each week there are scheduled times when a volunteer library attendant is on duty.

We look forward to having you join us, we’re there to answer questions, talk about ideas, and generally there to help you out, if needed.  On Sundays we offer tea and goodies – a happy place to meet for a chat with fellow island bibliophiles.

Hours:

Saturday 10:00 am until 1:00 pm

Sunday 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm

Monday 10:00 am until 1:00 pm

The library is always open after 10:00 am when there is a Community Activity at the hall and the entry door is open.  We have a simple honour system for signing out books and DVDs, instructions are at the sign out desk.  If you need help, ask the attendant on duty.  For returns when the building is closed, please use the drop box by the Courtside Entrance.

We hope you enjoy our lovely little island library.

Celine,
your volunteer librarian

TIVFFS: Silent Auction

The Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Fighters’ Society is holding a SILENT AUCTION for two hand carved wooden salmon.

Donated to the Society by well-known BC artist and carver Dan Steadman, these beautiful carvings were originally mounted on his studio walls.  One carving is a Douglas Fir salmon swimming on a carved wall plaque.  The other is a Yellow Cedar salmon “in the round” with hanger fastenings.

Both carvings will be on view at the Thetis Island Christmas Market on December 3rd, and sealed bids over the reserve price can be offered in person on that date.  Bids through email above the reserve price will be accepted up until December 7th by contacting the Society’s director Graeme Shelford at graemeshelford@gmail.com.  Graeme is able to accept cheques, cash and E-transfers for the successful bids.  The successful bidders will be notified by telephone and arrangements made to transfer funds to the Society  and for pickup of the carving.

The Reserve Bid for the Douglas Fir fish carving is $250 and the Reserve Bid for the Yellow Cedar salmon is $350.

Thetis Island Community Leaders Forum Summary

On November 7th, all Chairs of the different Thetis Island associations/societies, Islands Trustees, the CVRD Director-elect, and invited members of several committees attended the initial meeting of the Thetis Island Community Leaders Forum. The evening gathered those who are active members of our community through their roles within the associations and societies that shape our life here on Thetis.

The discussions ranged from climate change, reconciliation, road and dock safety to volunteer efficiencies. Three broad topics started the discussions, and they narrowed down from there.  It was an excellent way to have conversations with those with diverse perspectives or initiatives.

Thetis Island Community Leaders Forum meetings will continue to be limited to the representatives of recognized community associations or societies, large commercial entities and our elected officials.

We look forward to the next meeting in the New Year and will share key discussion points with the community.

Rental on VI Needed

A friend has been reno-victed in Saanich and is looking to rent an affordable 1-bedroom apartment anywhere between Victoria and the Shawnigan, Cobble Hill  or Cowichan Valley area.

He's a single quiet non-smoking biologist who loves birds so a rural rental would be optimal, but he's interested in hearing about anything available.

If you know of something, please call me at 250-246-8176 or email author@anneriksson.ca.

Thank you.

Ann Eriksson
