ThINC - PAG Work Party this Saturday, May 7th

The PAG work party is back on for this Saturday, May 7th between 10 - 12. So far, the weather looks pretty reasonable the morning of the 7th (according to one weather widget). But as our West Coast weather likes to keep us on our toes, please bring your rain gear, as well as some gardening tools / gloves.

In case you missed it, here's a wee bit about the PAG / plan:
The People's Apothecary Garden is a community medicinal plant garden located on Carolyn Askew's (kindly loaned) plot of land at Lot 62 North Cove Road, and is a part of the Thetis Island Community Farm Co-operative. It was constructed by the ThINCpod in the summer-fall of 2020 with the help of several Thetis Island residents. In 2021, Aislinn Cottell maintained the space with the help of volunteers, coordinated various events and activities, and developed some handy resources that we are continuing to expand on. In 2022 we are planning several medicinal plant and gardening workshops for the Thetis Island community.

The garden currently has > 45 unique medicinal plants (map and online plant library coming soon), including borage, comfrey, self-heal, mullein, wormwood, mints, lemon balm, evening primrose, sweet woodruff, yarrow, fennel, deadnettle, motherwort, lamb’s ear, and more! The kids at Thetis Island Elementary School have made numerous trips there over the last couple of years and we will continue to do so!

ThINC would greatly appreciate having extra hands in the garden throughout the growing season. Some of the activities will include: weeding, pruning, planting, application of compost / lasagna gardening, and path maintenance / wood chipping, and work parties will run every other week.

If you would like to join the team and/or make it to this Saturday's garden party, please email me at charlotte@thetisislandnatureconservancy.org

For more info on the PAG, please see: https://www.thetisislandnatureconservancy.org/people-s-apothecary-garden

Many thanks,

TIMA - Gift Basket Donations

The Thetis Island Marine Association has a new board of directors and new energy to continue the work of the previous volunteers to keep our anchorages safe and organized.

The previously installed channel marker chain has rusted away and needs to be replaced and there are other projects we are planning that require funds.

We are planning to hold a raffle this weekend at the Thetis Island Sailing Regatta- at the Thetis Island Marina .
There are 55 boats registered for this event which is amazing.

If you would like to contribute something for this raffle  maybe a craft, home baking, books or a service please contact us through

TIRRA Solid Waste Independent Site Review

At the TIRRA AGM April 28th, Paul Duncan led us through his review process and the outcomes for the Thetis Island Solid Waste site.

Paul agreed to take on this review at the June 2021 AGM, and he spent well over 200 hours in conversations and research regarding Solid Waste management.

This independent review was undertaken with the intent to understand current state (pre-covid) versus future state: considering risks, sustainability, and community engagement.

Optimization of our future solid waste management requires both Community and TIRRA commitment to succeed.

We require site employees and volunteers, but also individuals willing to operationalize the many components that will reduce risk and increase sustainability in a financially and environmentally responsible way.

The members who attended the AGM approved to prioritize Scenario 1 with a desire to engage in efforts to get to Scenario 2 as a future state.

Thank you, Paul for your commitment to this work and for providing a document that clearly defines some ways forward.
