Quarterly Deadline

The summer issue of the Quarterly is coming up!  We will be working on it in May, so the deadline for at least letting us know what to expect in the way of articles, stories, notices, ads, whatever (and preferably actually receiving them) is May 7th.  Please send things to quarterly@thetisisland.net.  If you don't hear back some kind of acknowledgement within 24 hours, please try again to
veronicashelford@gmail.com for stories, articles, images and notices,
and sowerby@seaside.net for ads.

Thanks!

Tour de Thetis

There's no podium prizes -- only Fred's 'participation' cookies -- for Tour de Thetis cyclists who finish, or just stop by, on their ride this Saturday morning. This third in a series of free rides (not a race) is for cyclists of all shapes, ages and ability levels on traditional or e-bikes. Some riders  will leave the community hall between 9  and 9.30 a.m. and do the entire course. It goes to the ends of North Cove, Forbes, Bella Vista, Sunrise Point and Pilkey Point. But you can follow any route. And aim to arrive at the hall at 11 a.m.

We are looking for a experienced drywall finisher for a medium size job. The boarding and taping/first coat is done. Is there someone on island or someone anyone knows that can do this.

Small Poultry Producers - Red Alert

The BC Poultry Association has just moved to Red Alert status for small farm poultry producers in BC and there is a confirmed case on Vancouver Island according to my source on Denman Island.  Bio-security measures should be put in place to lower the risk of the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in backyard flocks.  We all enjoy local eggs, so let’s protect our neighbours’ poultry.

Appliance Repair Help

Our washer needs some repair beyond our DIY. We have replaced the lid switch, but now believe it is the washer direct drive coupler.

Does anyone on Thetis do appliance repairs?
Do you know a reliable service tech/business who will come to Thetis?
Do you have an appliance requiring repair, to share the travel costs?

RCMP Fireside Chat - 10AM Wednesday April 20, Forbes Hall

RCMP Fireside Chat with Sgt. Wes Olsen of Ladysmith RCMP: Reminder of this event: Wednesday April 20th, 10AM, Forbes Hall: No COVID restrictions, social distancing recommended and masks optional. Event was scheduled so you might enjoy Soup's On following at 11:30AM.

Basic Agenda (based on community input)
Stats on RCMP involvement in Thetis Island policing:
- number of times officers attended per year, and for what situations did they attend?
- how many calls from Thetis Island, and what type of non emergency or emergency situations?
Ideas from other small remote communities to promote community safety and lawfulness:
- ideas for crime reduction, neighbourhood watch, local auxiliary, etc.
Discussion of the types of crimes and misdemeanors Thetis Islanders are concerned about, as submitted by community members to TIRRA.

Please email
tirra@thetisisland.net with number planning to attend.
This will help us set up the hall with chairs, as well as ensuring we have an appropriate sound system prepared.

NOTE: The RCMP has advised any significant emergency may require a reschedule if resources are not available.
Your email regarding attendance will help us notify you of any schedule change.

Regards, TIRRA
