Chinois Sieve Wanted

Does anyone have a Chinois they are willing to sell?

A chinois is a conical sieve with an extremely fine mesh. It is used to strain custards, purees, soups, and sauces. It often comes with a wire base and a wooden mortar. Your mother likely had one for canning.

New Provincial Protocols at Thetis Island Marina

As of today, the province has mandated that folks who wish to enter non-essential indoor spaces must provide proof of vaccination against Covid 19. This does not include the post office, liquor store or grocery store, though masks are still required at these locations.

As a result, only restaurant guests will be asked to present immunization records. Here is how we plan to handle the requirements:

We are happy to continue welcoming guests into our restaurant and we will continue our 'seat yourself' policy. Once seated, we ask that you lay your immunization records on the table for us to check. We can check either paper or electronic records. As always, please do not visit if you feel unwell.

We appreciate your business and we look forward to continuing to provide a safe social space for you and we look forward to seeing you soon.

A big thanks from the team at Thetis Island Marina.

YOGA WITH KAREN - NEW TIME, TUESDAY, 9:45 - 10:45am, 14th September, Forbes Hall

Hello lovely people!

Due to the Fitness Classes returning to the Hall, Yoga on Tuesday’s will now be at 9:45 - 10:45am.  Hope this still works for you all.

Proof of one vaccination is required and masks to be worn in all common areas, outside of the yoga room.

With the coming of Fall/Winter and shorter days, I am looking at possibly changing the Thursday evening yoga to a morning class 9:45 - 10:45am.  Please can you let me know if this new time would work for you.

Saturday morning classes will remain the same, 9-10am.

For all those students who will no longer be able to attend Yoga in person at the Hall, I am currently looking into the possibility of teaching one class a week with a live feed.

This would mean students can still attend class at the Hall, and at the same time I will have my computer there with a link via Zoom for those students who would prefer to attend online from their homes.

Online students will be able to see me teaching and giving instruction to everyone, so hopefully still feeling part of the yoga community.  Once I have worked this all out, I will let you know which class the live feed will be streaming from.  You will need internet access and a computer to join in the ‘Zoom room’.  Please email me if the ‘Zoom classes’ are something you would be interested in.

Thank you everyone for helping create this lovely community and for all of your generous donations, some of which will be used for purchasing props.

Looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday!

love,

Karen

Early Shift Activities Resume Monday Sept. 13th

The fire hazard rating has eased somewhat so starting Monday, early shift activities can resume.

Use of gas operated or spark generating machinery such as chainsaws, mowers, chippers, splitters, bulldozers etc. can operate from dawn to 1 p.m. and then a two-hour fire watch must be posted after the 1 pm shutdown.

Thank you all for your patience this fire season.  To badly mix metaphors; We are not quite out of the woods yet but we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
If the hazard ratings continue trending down later this week, we hope to cancel High Hazard Activities restrictions soon.
There is still a complete ban on all outdoor fires in place.
Please report any smoke sightings to 911.

Forbes Hall Community Centre Update: Proof of Vaccination

Effective Monday, September 13th – Proof of Vaccination
Mask Mandate continues to be in place.

Starting Monday, those attending any Forbes Hall community activity will be required to show PHO approved Proof of Vaccination. This is in accordance with the Public Health Office mandate regarding non-essential activities or gatherings. If a non-essential activity is not listed within the PHO general online lists, it does not automatically make it an essential activity.

Please note there are no exemptions for medical or religious reasons (PHO).  The orders have been put in place primarily to reduce transmission of a highly contagious disease, as well as new and more highly contagious variants of that disease.  The best way to reduce ongoing risk to the population is through high vaccination rates for those 12-years and older. The rules help to protect those who are unable to be protected by vaccination due to medical reasons, children under 12 years for who the vaccines have not yet been approved, and those who are unprotected by vaccination for personal reasons. Those who have already been vaccinated, while there is a greatly reduced risk of infection, are still able to carry the virus while asymptomatic which poses a risk to the unvaccinated.

Exceptions: Government and Private Rentals – these agree to comply with PHO orders upon entry to their rented spaces, which may differ from Forbes Hall community activity restrictions and rules.
Masks shall continue to be worn in all common spaces.  Activity leaders have been informed of requirements for their specific activity.

Forbes Hall Community Centre has many outdoor covered areas where there are no PHO orders in place, except for the size of gathering, which cannot exceed 5,000.

Please show kindness and understanding during this period.

Thank you
