Forbes Hall Library

Each week there are scheduled times when a volunteer library attendant is on duty.

We Look forward to having you join us, we're there to answer questions, talk about ideas, and generally there to help you out, if needed.  On Sundays we offer tea and goodies - a happy place to meet for a chat with fellow island bibliophiles.

Hours:

Saturday 10:00 am until 1:00 PM

Sunday 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm

Monday 10;00 am until 1:00 pm

The library is always open after 10:00 am when there is a Community Activity at the hall and the entry door is open.  We have a simple honour system for signing out books and DVD's, instructions are at the sign out desk.  If you need help, ask the attendant on duty.  For returns when the building is closed, please use the drop box by the Courtside Entrance.

We hope you enjoy our lovely little island library.

Hallowe'en Greet and Treat

The Fire Department will welcome tiny tots and younger children to “trick or treat” at the Fire Hall on Halloween night.  We will be there to greet and treat from 6:00 o’clock to 7:00 o’clock. 

If it is raining, we will have the big fire engine bay open.  If other residents would like to see the little ‘uns in their costumes and want to bring treats to the hall to pass out, you are more than welcome to come. 

We will have the coffee on for you.

Thank you to the citizens of CVRD Area G Saltair/Gulf Islands for the opportunity to represent them over the past four years. As a community we have a had a very successful 4 years.

Get Ready for the Winter Wet

OUTLOOK: The  resilient ridge of high pressure Wednesday finally begins to weaken. The circulation becomes inflow on Thursday which should help to reduce smoke concentrations and improve both visibilities and air quality. The long-awaited rain arrives on Friday when a robust frontal system reaches the South Coast delivering 5-20 mm of rain. All zones can expect rain and much cooler temperatures through the weekend.

CONFIDENCE/DISCUSSION: Good confidence with the warm, dry, hazy pattern followed by a significant shift to wet and cool come Friday. All weather models have been very consistent with the upcoming change so confidence is high we will finally see a decline in fire weather conditions.

6 TO 10 DAY: The upcoming change in the weather pattern is by no means a short lived one. Long range guidance calls for cool, fall-like weather persisting through next week with a regular succession of disturbances entrained in a northwesterly flow. The atmosphere will be cool enough for snow to begin accumulating above 1500 metres.

TIRRA Solid Waste Facility: Information Session

Forbes Hall, Thursday November 3rd at 7PM

(Originally planned for October 22nd: postponed until after TIRRA Special Member Meeting Oct 27th regarding bylaw amendments)

Community feedback indicates there is a need for additional information sharing and discussion regarding the future of the Solid Waste facility.

This Information Session is to enable further clarity before community decisions are made on the 2023 facility operation and budget (parcel tax). 

Prior to the meeting a slide presentation will be shared on the TIRRA website. An eSPOKES notification will advise when presentation has been posted.
