Nature House: Let's get Medicinal!

Stop and smell the (native) flowers! Join us at the People's Apothecary Garden this week to learn about some useful plants found in your own backyard. The garden is in full bloom after all the hard work of ThINC students from last Summer. We will be examining some local and exotic species of medicinal plants found in the garden and catching up on the "buzz" of the neighbourhood honeybee hive. If this sounds like something for you, please register here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1l01psKv9g86TdiGAJzxeHgTlp1Xel8J-5wTWqCutLrU/edit#gid=818719830

Housekeeping

Hi Folks! We’re excited to have you join us for the summer season but there are a few housekeeping items to address first.

COVID-19 Protocols: Our first priority is COVID safety.

Please stay home if you or someone in your bubble is feeling sick or experiencing flu-like symptoms.

Masks must be worn when indoors.

Sanitizing stations will be provided when entering the Nature House

Masks are not required when outdoors but please be mindful of personal space and keeping a safe distance between participants who are not in your bubble.

Registration:

Registration is mandatory to attend our events, at this time we will NOT be accepting drop-ins. A maximum of 10 participants will be allowed per session on a first come first serve basis. Only one bubble is allowed per session including the accompanying parents/guardians. Once a session has been filled by a bubble, there will be no more room for attendees outside of that bubble.

Attendance:

All age groups are welcome, however children age 12 and under will require a parent or guardian to accompany them during the session.

Parking/Meeting Locations:

We will be meeting at the People's Apothecary Garden (62 North Cove Rd.) at the allotted registration time at 9 am or 12:30 pm. Parking is available either on Mission Rd. or at the Community Centre

What to Bring:

Please wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, i.e. hat, sunglasses, water, etc.

Questions and Concerns:

Questions and concerns regarding Nature House events, schedules and registration can be directed to breanna@thetisislandnatureconservancy.org.

Ferry Ramp Update

BC Ferries has put on a water taxi until the ramp gets fixed. The small emergency boat is being used until they get the larger water taxi up from Salt Spring.  In the meantime the dock maintenance crew may have resolved the issue!

Ferry Troubles

Update as of 8:40 am:

Please be advised that only foot passenger service is available to or from Thetis Island at this time due to a ramp issue at the terminal. A log has wedged under the ramp, preventing its use, and we are unable to load or unload vehicles at Thetis Island. Terminal maintenance is working on a solution and we will provide updates as quickly as they are available. This issue does not affect service between Penelakut and Chemainus.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this service disruption and appreciate your patience as we work to resolve the issue.

For more information please follow @BCFerries on Twitter, visit our website at bcferries.com, or call us toll free at 1-888-BCFERRY (223-3779).

Forbes Hall - to Mask or not to Mask?

As the hall reopens to many activities, and the province has just updated its recommendations regarding mask use, it is good to remind ourselves of those recommendations when attending an activity at Forbes Hall.

Mask Guidance

Masks are recommended in indoor public settings for all people 12 and older who are not yet fully vaccinated.

  • You're fully vaccinated 14 days after dose 2
  • Masks are optional for children aged 2 to 12
  • Children under 2 should not wear masks
  • Proof of vaccination does not need to be requested by service providers
  • Some people may choose to continue to wear a mask after they're fully vaccinated and that's okay

ATV Help

Our ATV needs its solenoid replaced.
We have the part but lack the required expertise!  It’s a Yamaha Kodiak quad.

If you know how to do it please let us know and we’d be happy to pay for the service.
