I sent this to our Coast Guard but afterthought, the Islands Trust might debate this!
Let me describe a weekend at anchor off Penelakut Island. The peace and tranquility is routinely destroyed by hi revving speed maniacs on water craft attempting repetitive impossible acrobats at noise levels exceeding 90 db; over horse-powered "layer cake" fiberglass behemoths generating tsunamis in order to get to the next A/C marina plug in; and Mach lll speeders sporting multiple 350 hp Yammis.
If not for the sake of fellow, albeit sane boaters, (yes, you guessed it, sailors) who do enjoy transiting our amazing coastline; what about all creatures great and small who are forced to flee, dive and swim because of this insanity.
As a lifelong global sailor I believe it a privilege to own a boat. Highways have rules and regulations.
Everyone but the fossil fuel market is a winner if you implement speed limits in Coastal waters.
Cheers
