Wine Bottle Recycling

To the person that left all the U-Brew wine bottles at the returnables site… please take them to the other side for recycling.  There is no capacity for TIPA to deal with such a large volume of recyclable materials.  Alternatively, perhaps there is someone on Thetis that would like several boxes of U-Brew wine bottles.  Either way the bottles are taking up too much space at our sorting site to stay… please remove before Saturday.

Thank you everyone for leaving your returnable containers at our collection site and taking your recycling to Vancouver Island sites for processing… we appreciate your donations and efforts to keep our system running smoothly.

Looking for a Place to Stay in Our Camper

Hello. We are painting contractors who need to stay a week to begin and complete a job. We would be coming towards end of May.  Our clients have generously offered power to our little 16 ft trailer, but we are a bit reluctant to ask if there’s a bathroom to use (in their home!)  I can find no useful information regarding camping on Thetis Island.  All we need is a regular plug for phone charging and an outhouse would do the trick.  We don’t know the island at all, but our client is on Pilkey Pt. Rd. Hoping to find a place to stay close by. If there is no campsite. do you know of anyone who could supply us those services?

Thanks so much.

Computer Troubleshooting

Would just like to know if there is anyone on the island at this point who is experienced, good at and willing to deal with computer problems (at a reasonable fee).

I bet I'm not the only person who would want to know this.

Getting Forbes Hall Ready to Welcome Us Back!

There are several jobs that need to be completed before Forbes Hall is ready to welcome the community back.  Volunteers are needed to complete the listed jobs.  While a few intrepid volunteers have been continuously getting some of the more finicky jobs done, there are other specific jobs that need more people to help with.

These jobs are the most immediate and need to be completed by early June. While there will still be more jobs to be finished, they will be posted as needed.

Please email info@forbeshall.ca with your availability and the jobs you can help with.  Teams will need to be assembled, providing several dates to work from will be appreciated.

Alternately, you can self-assemble with others, and let us know when you’ll be doing the work.  Someone will meet you on-site to explain the tasks more fully.

Jobs / Volunteers Needed / Dates:

Beverage Station: several, three different jobs

Wash beverage station cabinets by May 19th

Paint insides of upper cabinets (using melamine paint, supplied) by May 24th

Unpack all beverage related items, and additional items as room allows, essentially get it set up and ready.  By May 31st

Basement: at least two people

         Assemble shelving: By May 19th

Sort, clean and stack chairs – ready for use or repair. By June 1st

Cabinetry: at least two people – one day?

Hang four wall cabinets: Shelves, Doors, Knobs (library office (1), care station (2), storage hub (1)

Assemble tall cabinet in Board Room: temporary wall attachment (until rest of cabinets arrive).

         Install shelves and doors.

Build and install drawers for three of the small units in Board Room. Stack beside tall cabinet.

Fitness Equipment: 3 or 4 people for an hour?

Store efficiently between Storage Hub Closet and Storage Room

Entry Benches:

Looking for someone to build two entry benches from a donated Glu-Lam beam.

Looking forward to your participation at this exciting time,

Ann Dickie

Health Care Practitioners at Forbes Hall

In our recent survey to determine the community's level of interest in seeing various activities and services provided at the hall, there was significant interest shown in massage therapy and physiotherapy as well as foot care and acupuncture.

One individual indicated the possibility of offering Reiki.  The Programming Outreach Committee would appreciate hearing from individuals qualified to offer services and/or individuals who are currently using these services nearby who believe that their practitioner might be interested in working on Thetis for a day or two each month.   (Discussions have already begun with RMT, Jennifer Neilson).

Please email the committee at forbeshallprograms@gmail.com to advise of your interest in providing services or your recommendations regarding practitioners we should contact.

Thanks for your assistance.

Fire Season has Started

Gardeners already know how dry it is on Thetis when digging in their vegetable starts. And last week, just after the local drizzle, we had a small, early morning bush fire ignited by a downed power line.  Monday afternoon three fire halls and the Cobble Hill forestry crew with the water-bucketing helicopter actioned a large bush fire in Maple Bay at Stoney Hill Regional Park.  All of this points to an early start to fire season.

Please be very careful with yard waste fires - use a lot of water to extinguish them so that they don't "go to ground" and ignite from underground embers in the coming weeks.

Thank you.
