Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 12:05PM During these unprecedented times TIPA continues to receive generous support from the Thetis Island Community with your contributions to our Returnable Beverage Container Program. The funds raised support our local school aged children, attending or having attended, Thetis Island Elementary with programming, activities, tangible educational aids and even bursaries to graduates pursuing post-secondary education. We are so grateful for your support.
The Returnable Beverage Container Program serves as an integral component in the waste removal from Thetis Island and TIPA takes the responsibility seriously to ensure that the collection site is maintained, and the containers are transported off island efficiently. It is no small feat to collect, primary sort and transport in excess of 150,000 containers weighing at least 36,000 pounds off island every year.
To this end we ask that ONLY returnable beverage containers be deposited at our collection site as the removal of recyclable containers from Thetis is currently suspended and these materials add an additional burden to our system. Returnable beverage containers are those on which a deposit has been paid when purchased and do not include milk/milk alternative, soup, meal replacement, concentrated drink mix (requiring addition of water) and u-brew containers.
