Week 5 of 26 Weeks

26 Weeks to Emergency Preparedness

To help you accomplish this, Cowichan Valley Emergency Management published an Emergency Preparedness Workbook available online at

https://www.cvrd.ca/DocumentCenter/View/84184/MIECM-Emergency-Preparedness-Workbook---2017?bidId=

The " 26 Weeks " segment is a mere two pages of the workbook that is full of valuable information and worth reading all the way through. Copies are also available from your LERN captain.

Week  5 Task: Get a large portable container with a tight fitting lid to use as a home emergency supplies kit. A large garbage can on wheels kept in an accessible location  near an exit or in a shed would be most suitable. Refer to page 11 & 12 of the workbook for the lists of supplies intended for this container. It is important that you find the right storage space for these supplies so they will not be damaged or become inaccessible during an earthquake etc. Plan in advance for alternative ways to care for your needs if services are disrupted including shelter, cooking, light, sanitation. (We know many Thetis Islanders have plenty of practice in this regard) .

Your ESS Team, wishing you good health and safety,

 Mary F, Petra A, Eleanor V, Gurk S and Virginia L.

Help with Internet connection

Hello, our daughter is visiting but needs to complete an online exam that requires more download speed than our WIFI offers. We are hoping someone has an Ethernet to USB cord that we can borrow so we can connect directly to the modem. USB (2.0 or 3.0) to Ethernet or USB-C (Thunderbolt) to Ethernet - either will work.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Please call 250-246-1593 or text 778-899-3216 or email davidreay@telus.net

Food Bank Donations

Last day of collection for Harvest House Food Bank donations will be Wednesday, December 16th at the fire hall.  Thank you to those whom have already dropped off your cans, jars and boxes of grocery items.

We are looking for volunteers for this Thursday, December 3rd and then in two weeks, December17th, to drop off the donations in Chemainus at the back of the United Church (blue door, down the steps) between 11am and 1pm.  If you are going to town on either of those days and can take some filled grocery bags, please let me know and we can arrange for you to pick up the bags or we can deliver them to your vehicle in the ferry line-up.

Thank you for your generosity this season.
