Attention, Drivers!

This is the third time that I have seen your vehicle speeding down our roads at highway-like speed.

It only takes a split second to change your life, or the lives of another family.

Think for a moment.  Have a word with yourself!

We have had several accidents on our island that have changed the lives of several families forever and broken the hearts of many Thetis Island residents. Let’s not let history repeat itself.

We have speed limits on our roads for a reason. Our roads are winding, and visibility is often obscured.

Islanders and tourists ride their bikes on the road, people walk their dogs on the road, there are joggers on the road and our children ride horses and their bicycles on the road. We are no match for a speeding vehicle.

For some time now, we have been free from motor vehicle accidents. Let’s work together and continue to keep our island safe from tragedy.

So. SLOW DOWN!     If not for yourself; for others.

WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE!

This weekend especially, we should be thankful for the safe and beautiful place that we call home.

Happy Thanksgiving to all Thetis Islanders, your families and your friends.

Keep Healthy!  Keep Safe!

Our cat TK is new to Thetis.  She is quite petite and can be very friendly, on her terms of course, and also likes to go on walkabouts.  She’s on walkabout right now - if anyone spots her please phone Hyatt at 246-3038 and we’ll come and get her.

Thanks

Community Member Survey Regarding Solid Waste Recycle (Reminder)

A reminder to complete the survey by Wednesday, October 14th.

We appreciate all of those who already completed the survey. Thank you for your feedback and comments.

Specifically to the individual who felt it necessary to enter their vote 60 times, and add a comment with profanity: we assume you are technically challenged, hitting the submit button that many times. It could not possibly be that you are a purposeful cheat. If you are, shame on you....your behaviour is inconsistent with the trust we all depend on in this small island community.

Goes without saying: Please vote only once per household as it will save us time in collating results.

At this time, we have received 76 legitimate replies, however, we would like to hear from as many as possible.

If you have misplaced the original espokes here it is:

COMMUNITY MEMBER SURVEY REGARDING SOLID WASTE RECYCLE (Originally posted in espokes on October 7th, 2020)

In March we closed the Recycle component of the Solid Waste yard, to comply with Health and Safety guidelines.

There have been some queries about when and how the Recycle could re-open. To answer this question, the ThINC pod (youth hires) completed the research to develop a potential plan for the TIRRA Solid Waste team to consider. They did a great job of researching WorkSafe, Health Authorities, other island communities, and costs for materials.

We know the sort system and the process for recyclable handling will require dramatic changes, so at the beginning of the survey we have provided an overview, which is relevant to read and digest before responding.

Now it is time for your feedback. Here is a link to a survey, total of 3 questions, with a free-form comment section. Your feedback is integral to further decisions or actions.

Thank you for participating! We would be grateful for response by end of day, Wednesday, October 14th.
