Wanted: Jars!!!

Trying to buy canning jars of any size is impossible these days. With every man, woman and dog canning during Covid 19 the canning jar departments in most stores are as rare as hen's teeth.

Do you have new, used jars that I can buy to trade for jam or jelly? I would appreciate any jars that hold 250ml or less.

I will pick up either at the bottom of your drive-way or can be dropped off by our gate.( will have a box or cooler available) 162 Pilkey Point Road. I will be making more jam and Jellies for the Christmas season. Stand by for more information.

Thank you to all who bought my jams and jellies over the summer.

ThINC Request

Subject: Installing the gate at the People's Apothecary!

Hello Thetis Island residents,

We are in need of Quikrete (ready-to-use concrete) and crushed/small rocks for setting two posts for the gate we are installing at the People's Apothecary garden.  Also, if anyone has some waterproofing treatment for the posts, it would be much appreciated. If you have these materials and are interested and donating them to the community medical garden please contact us at cfesnoux@gmail.com.

Thank you,

The ThINCpod

Kitchen Fires have Increased During the Pandemic

Fire officials say many families have a lot more on the go in their homes these days and must make sure they're paying attention while cooking.

“Now people are at home. They are working at home. They are schooling their children at home. They have all these extra distractions they never had before.”

Fire experts say that one of the worst mistakes a person can make to have a grease fire is to throw water on it. Fire officials say in the event of stove fire, use an oven mitt and a pot lid to smother the fire and then leave the lid in place.

If someone doesn’t have a lid, a cookie sheet or something else that can smother the fire and starve it from oxygen, can also work.

It's recommended people have at least one fire extinguisher in their home and should know how to use it. They’ll want to make sure it's fully charged and remember the pass method.”  PASS = Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, Sweep the spray from side to side)

Fire Prevention Week ends on Saturday.  But Fire Safety in the kitchen should be a year round activity.

The COVID-19 pandemic means we are adapting to living and working in different ways, however wildfires, storms and earthquakes are still happening. ShakeOut BC is a chance to practice how to be safe when the earth shakes.

You can ShakeOut at home, work, school or even through a video conference with your colleagues while working from home. Make a plan and renew or sign up for ShakeOut BC today.

ShakeOut is a grassroots effort, and your 2020 ShakeOut plan may inspire others, so please share your plans with us: info@shakeoutbc.ca Registrations for your business, organization or school are updated every year – register here and join us for ShakeOut BC 2020. And be sure to follow @ShakeOutBC on Twitter for videos and preparation tips.
