Why wwoof now? Please help Jollity Farm win a video contest!

Many of you have enjoyed the benefits of having wwoofers from across Canada and around the world join our community over the years. Energetic ping pong players, dance instructors, fire hall volunteers, solar panel providers, gardeners, heavy lifters, engine fixers, bread bakers, puppeteers, child minders, bridge & sign builders, new friends and more.

Covid-19 has changed the way that Jollity has welcomed helpers this past year. Regardless, we've continued carefully but with many less hands and turnover, as well as mostly just Canadians.

We've been busy and had a lot of fun creating a video entry for the 2020 WWOOF Canada video contest featuring past and current Wwoofers, original music by farm helper Jeremie, community garden members and cameos by our animal friends.

The contest winners will be decided by a combination of jury voting based upon merit (story line and overall execution) but also popular vote. That's where you come in to help!

Please watch our video entry on YouTube #MyWWOOFCanadaStory: Why Wwoof now?

If you like it, please give us a THUMBS UP (icon just under the video) on YouTube. If you have friends and family that would appreciate the video and have visited the farm, please share it around.

Thanks so much for your support!

A bridge spanning a drainage ditch has been installed at the new Capernwray entrance to St. Margaret’s Cemetery.

Many thanks to Ron Vandergaag for his donation of time and talent towards making this beautiful construction.

And many thanks to Charles Fordham for his kind donation of the lumber and stain.

Week 5 of 26 Weeks

26 Weeks to Emergency Preparedness

To help you accomplish this, Cowichan Valley Emergency Management published an Emergency Preparedness Workbook available online at

https://www.cvrd.ca/DocumentCenter/View/84184/MIECM-Emergency-Preparedness-Workbook---2017?bidId=

The " 26 Weeks " segment is a mere two pages of the workbook that is full of valuable information and worth reading all the way through. Copies are also available from your LERN captain.

Week  5 Task: Get a large portable container with a tight fitting lid to use as a home emergency supplies kit. A large garbage can on wheels kept in an accessible location  near an exit or in a shed would be most suitable. Refer to page 11 & 12 of the workbook for the lists of supplies intended for this container. It is important that you find the right storage space for these supplies so they will not be damaged or become inaccessible during an earthquake etc. Plan in advance for alternative ways to care for your needs if services are disrupted including shelter, cooking, light, sanitation. (We know many Thetis Islanders have plenty of practice in this regard) .

Your ESS Team, wishing you good health and safety,

 Mary F, Petra A, Eleanor V, Gurk S and Virginia L.

Help with Internet connection

Hello, our daughter is visiting but needs to complete an online exam that requires more download speed than our WIFI offers. We are hoping someone has an Ethernet to USB cord that we can borrow so we can connect directly to the modem. USB (2.0 or 3.0) to Ethernet or USB-C (Thunderbolt) to Ethernet - either will work.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Please call 250-246-1593 or text 778-899-3216 or email davidreay@telus.net
