Please Vote Saturday

I encourage you all to come out and vote in support of the TICA resolution to establish a Line Of Credit for the Forbes Hall Project.  I feel very confident this step is necessary and prudent to bring the project to a comfortable and timely finish.

O how we miss our community centre! Please support the countless hours contributed by the folks on the front line of the project by marking your ballot “Yes” on Saturday.

Thank you,

Tim French

Our Community’s Heart

On a morning like this with rain pelting the windowpanes, my thoughts go to completing the expansion and renovation of Forbes Hall. Everyone who’s made time to tour the project is excited by the possibilities of what the Hall will offer.   Instead of rushing around putting outdoor furniture away, I could be looking for my best dancing shoes for a Friday nite dinner and dance.

No one wants to borrow money to finish the job. As a member of the TICA Board and project management team we have looked at every option we can think of, crazy or not, inside or outside the box to complete the project without borrowing. In the end, I go on hope. Hope that the desire for a beautiful, well designed, multi option space where we can get together (it is the only public building on the Island) will result in a positive vote. As Thetis Islanders have done before, let's MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Annual Flu Shot Clinic

The date has been set for the Annual Flu Shot Clinic.  TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27.  Starts at 9:30.

It will be a little different and a mite slower this year due to the necessity of following the pandemic regulations, but the TIVFD, the TIVFD Auxiliary, and the four VIHA Community Nurses will make the event as painless as possible for you.

If you have children under 17 yrs. that will want the nasal flu mist, please let Jeannine know (chief11@telus.net) by October 21st so that the nurses will bring enough.

More information will be forthcoming as we get closer to the date.

Looking for Drainage Tile

Hello Islanders,

We are looking to install some drainage tile and before heading off-Island to buy it, we are wondering if anyone might have some ends or short lengths here. We are looking to purchase lengths of about 10 feet.

Please let us know if you have any around that you would like to part with.

Thank you!

Hall Expansion: Loiselles

The dilemma in which Thetis Island finds itself regarding the hall expansion in many ways is causing the opposite effect than that intended. It is our observation that it has in fact split the community rather than bringing it together.

This vote, which has already been rejected once, puts us in an untenable position. To support the suggested loan goes against our values and better judgement with many questions as to how and why we have come to this point. To reject the loan will halt progress on the building and leave the community without a HEART for an indefinite period.  Either way it will only serve to split the community further which no one wants. It is a no win situation.

Perhaps there is a way out of this quandary by putting our heads together and thinking outside the box to find an acceptable solution. If as a community, instead of voting yes or no we chose to defer the decision, it would buy some time to allow some options to be explored. When one can't see an acceptable solution it is best to step back and ponder the options. There is more than enough brain-power on Thetis to find a way forward if we cooperate and think as a collective.

A completed functioning hall is everyone's wish, but let's find a way to do it in harmony.

With gratitude and respect for this community

Maureen and Wayne Loiselle

TICA Local Lenders Program Update

The Local Lenders Program has raised commitments of $250,000 from 5 families.  Two families who had originally planned on loaning their $50,000 took a very generous step and decided to donate the funds instead, this is very exciting and demonstrates a deep commitment to the completion of Forbes Hall.

The Local Lenders Program offers three options – a $50,000 donation with a charitable tax receipt, a $50,000 interest free loan for 3 years, or a $50,000 loan at 2% annual interest for 3 years.

We are asking anyone interested in knowing more about this program to contact Paul Duncan (250-246-6623) or Carolyn Askew (1-604-209-4939) so we can arrange to meet with you before Saturday.

All enquiries are confidential.
