Food Safety During Power Outages

Stormy weather is predicted before summer!  Here is an excellent chart to print out and save to read by candlelight when the power goes out.

Fire Prevention Week Ends

Thank you for participating in Fire Prevention Week by cleaning your chimney, checking your smoke alarm batteries, making sure you have a family escape plan in place, and checking your dryer vents.

But we also want to thank you for your safety and vigilance during this past wildfire season. Because of your participation by not allowing fires to start, and by calling in smoke sightings to 911, we had only a few minor incidents that were dealt with swiftly.

We are in this together.  We appreciate your help.

My uncle, Ron Hyatt, turns 98 years old on Thursday, October 17 and it would be lovely for him to receive some birthday wishes cards in the drop box.

Ron and Edith’s box number is 11-10.

I will gather any cards for him from the drop box at the post boxes and give them to him on Thursday.

Thanks,

Missing Orange/White Tabby Cat near Sunrise Point

Our cat, "Dudley", disappeared Tuesday Oct 8th from our home (on Pilkey Point Road between Clam Bay Road and Sunrise Point Road)

He's mostly orange with white belly & paws, and weighs just over 12 lbs.  He's very friendly and has shown himself quite willing to walk over to a neighbour's house and invite himself in to explore, so we suspect someone may have though he was abandoned and taken him in.

If he's moved in with you or you have seen him in the past few days, please call us (250-984-3033) or email jthorn4242@gmail.com so we can retrieve him. We miss him.

Thanks, -- Virginia and Jonathan

Helping Out after the Vandalism

As usual, Thetis Island is pulling together to help out.
After the vandalism, many things need to be replaced and a window to be repaired, in order to have the trailer liveable.  The trailer means that the construction supervisor can be on site all week, and also, it means that he doesn’t have to drive home to Parksville each night.
The mess that was left behind is as if two bear cubs broke in and threw stuff all through the forest.  It’s so sad.
Anyhow here’s what’s needed.
1.  Window Repair:
Koeppens have some plexiglass that could be used to repair the window in some way. Is there someone who could repair/install this?  (Bill Dickie has looked at it and can give you some insight.)
2.  Delivery of Mattress & Bedding to site on Tuesday.  Please contact Anne-Marie Koeppen.
3.  Someone to clean up the mess outside of the trailer, and through the property.
4.  Donations of cash to replace the stolen and broken items.  Please email or call Anne-Marie Koeppen 250-246-1991 gotoannemarie@hotmail.com , or Greg Gall 780-505-1569  gnp.gall@gmail.com
Thank you to all in advance,
Ann Dickie
