The BC Bat Monitoring Program, in collaboration with the BC Government is requesting the public to report dead bats or bats flying during winter.
White Nose Syndrome (WNS), a fungal disease responsible for the death of millions of bats in eastern North America, has moved to the west coast and was confirmed in Washington State in 2016. This is very worrisome for the health of bat populations in British Columbia, with near 100% mortality for some species of bats exposed to the fungus. Although devastating for bats, WNS does not affect humans.
If you find a dead bat in our region, report it to Habitat Acquisition Trust (HAT) by reaching Katie Bell – at 250 995 2428 as soon as possible for further information. Never touch a dead bat with your bare hands. Please note that if you or your pet has been in direct contact with the bat you will need further information regarding the risk of rabies to you and your pet.
For more information contact the BC Community Bat Program, see www.bcbats.ca, email info@bcbats.ca or call 1-855-922-2287

Thank you all who kept you eyes open for the missing Fire Dept. Hand-held radio. It has been located and returned.
TIVFD
A TIVFD black, portable (hand-held) Motorola XPR-6550 Radio went missing after a trauma call-out on Monday evening. It has a curly cord to the microphone and an elastic band over the on/off button to keep it from inadvertently turning on when not in use. It was misplaced possibly near the ferry dock, the community dock, or at the post boxes. If you have found it, or know somebody who has, please return it to the Fire Dept. We need it. Many thanks!
