Canoe Races on Penelakut July 29th and 30th

Youth, men and women's events both days.

Thetis Islanders welcome. 10:00 Saturday till 3:00 Sunday

The event is on the spit on the east side of Penelakut, it is just of 2km across the island from the ferry so it is a good 1/2 hour walk some of it up hill. The school bus and other rides will be available to transport from the ferry to the spit.

Better to not drive over as you will have to back on the ferry if you leave from Thetis.

You are welcome to canoe, kayak or boat over to the spit, avoid the race course :) unless you are planning on competing.

Canoe crews will be coming from Cowichan, Snuneymuxw, Chemainus, Saanich and more.

Booths will be set up on the spit to sell food (hamburgers, indian taco's more) and crafts, bring water and other personal items that you may need.

Donations gratefully accepted to offset cost of holding this event.

Stop by the Nature House for a day of crustacean-themed crafts, games, and activities!

July 29 Night Sky Watch and Storytelling 8-10:30PM

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it a meteor shower? Come and join us at The Portal for the Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower. Come by the Nature House around sundown to view the meteor shower, be regaled with stories of Thetis’s past, enjoy the bioluminescence, view bats flying around The Portal and much, much more. Rumour has it that Mercury may also be visible just after sunset! Bring a blanket and something to sit on!

July 30 Pedego Electric Bicycles Information Session and Demos 11-3PM

Pedego Electric Bicycles from Victoria has graciously agreed to give us an information session and demonstrations of the finest electric pedal assist bicycles. There will be information, as well as the opportunity to experience electric pedal assist bicycles by test riding (ages 16+ only)! We will also be doing several other energy alternative activities during this time! Check our Pedego's website for more details: pedegovictoria.ca

As with all of our summer programs, each are by donation, or available to our members at no cost. Memberships are still available! All ages are welcome, however, children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult for the activities, and children over 8 must be signed in by an adult. Shuttle Service Wanted ~ August 26th Wedding

I am a wedding planner based out of Victoria, and I am helping with a wedding at Overbury Resort on Saturday, Aug 26th.  We are hoping to find someone local, who would be able to offer a “shuttle” service to guests.  We would be looking to have pickups at certain locations happen between 3:15 - 4:00, and then again at the end of the evening, between 11pm - 1am.  There are only approx. 25+ guests who will need to be shuttled around, and so someone who has a van would be great for this!
