Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 9:29AM My heartfelt thanks to the wonderful group of community members who came out to Forbes Hall meet local Green Party Candidate Fran Hunt-Jinnouchie. I know she felt well-received and glad she made the trip.
I especially want to thank everyone who tidied up the hall while I drove Fran to the ferry - you were gone before I got back to find voila everything was already done! Your thoughtfulness is much appreciated.

Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 8:37AM Christmas and homemade gifts just seem to go together and handmade cards are especially treasured in this day of “instant” emails and messages. Embrace this by joining the Christmas Card Gathering at Forbes Hall, Saturday November 14 from 1 to 4 pm.
Spend a fun afternoon creating a dozen elegant handmade cards, enjoy some Christmas music, door prizes, tea and treats with your neighbours and friends. No experience is necessary as everything will be precut and all materials supplied in your kit. You need only a pair of scissors and a tape runner.
Open to everyone…no registration fee. Materials kit $40 payable to the instructor. Extra kits can be purchased to make additional cards at home and tape runners will also be available. Contact Carol Swann 250 246 3699 or seaspray@telus.net

Two Piano Tornado is an unpredictable vortex that will pick the listener up and deposit them in another realm, surrounding them with swirling riffs improvised completely from what they hear in each other's playing. Never the same, always changing direction, and always spinning through both standard and original tunes, Annie Avery and Grant Simpson are a true force of nature.
Grant Simpson will return to Thetis, bringing along Annie Avery for a powerful "Piano Tornado" concert. Friday, Nov. 6th at 7:30PM ~ $15.00 at the door.

Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 11:11AM We are pleased to announce that the Cowichan Land Trust will be offering the popular Bioengineering Course again this year on Saturday and Sunday October 17th & 18th, from 9am to 4pm in Duncan, BC.
The two-day course is aimed at anyone wanting to learn more about ecological restoration options with an emphasis on bioengineering techniques. Soil bioengineering is an applied science that uses live plant materials to perform an engineering function such as slope stabilization, soil erosion control, or seepage control.
Topics to be covered include:
* Factors involved in successful restoration
* Successional reclamation
* Soil bioengineering techniques
* Regional differences in climate, soils, hydrology, plant types, and growing seasons
* Maintenance and monitoring.
Instructor David Polster is a plant ecologist with over thirty years of experience in vegetation studies and reclamation. He has developed a wide variety of reclamation techniques for the re-establishment of riparian and aquatic habitats.
