Islands Trust ~ News Release

The Islands Trust Fund issued a news release today that might be of interest to your readers, especially those in the Gulf Islands.  The Islands Trust Fund posted a report and new mapping today highlighting all the beaches on Thetis, Denman and Hornby Islands capable of supporting forage fish spawning.  The Islands Trust Fund hopes local trust committees (local governments) will use the new data when considering shoreline development setbacks and other planning tools that could preserve spawning habitat on the islands.

Bike to Work Week

You are invited to join Thetis friends participating in Bike to Work Week BC that starts tomorrow (May 25) and ends Sunday (June 1). It's free. Last year Thetis had the highest participation rate of all Gulf Islands.

You can take part even if you don't cycle. Our coordinator says that "cycling, running, walking, even walking the dog or using a mobility aid" at least once in the week -- say, for a trip you might otherwise take using non-human power -- will qualify.

Register on-line or simply report your distance in kilometres to me after next Sunday. Register on-line at www.biketowork.caWhen prompted to choose 'What Region?', pick 'Salt Spring and Other Gulf Islands'. Then select 'I am a rider' and join the 'existing team'. Our name is 'Thetis Islanders in Motion.'

Photo Quest

Hey everyone, Aislinn here.

As I am nearing the end of my high school career, I’ve been doing some work on scholarship applications, and am looking for picture proof of some of my volunteer work in the community. So if you have anything of yours-truly pulling broom/at seniors dinners/doing library/at the recycling depot/etc., I would love to have a copy. Please respond by email aishlion@gmail.com or phone 250-246-5269.

Thanks a bunch!

Aislinn
