Man in Boat near Shore w/ Spotlight on Saturday Afternoon

I have family visiting. Today, we discussed recent thefts by boat.

They reported that on Saturday afternoon, they were walking on St. Margaret’s Lane, near the property where the house is being built.

They noticed a man in a boat with its sport light on (mounted on the bow) coming toward the shore of that property. When he saw my nephew in a bright jacket, he turned and motored away.

Boat is white with large motor mounted in rear. He appeared thickset, wearing a dark cap and jacket and khaki pants.

Island Health Immunization Clinic Forbes Hall – November 9th

On Thursday, November 9th, Island Health will be holding an Influenza and COVID-19 immunization clinic at Forbes Hall Community Centre.

COVID vaccine will be for the new strain XBB.1.5

All BC residents 6 months and older can get a free flu and/or COVID-19 vaccine.

Everyone, including children, must be registered. If you’ve ever had a COVID-19 vaccine, you are already registered. If not, register at www.getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca

Invitations to book are being sent out to citizens registered in the get vaccinated system. Once they receive their invitation to book, they can follow the link or call the Provincial call centre at 1-833-838-2323

Choose Thetis Island – Forbes Hall to attend the Thetis Island Clinic.

Only one appointment per person needs to be made. If the person is eligible to receive both vaccines, they will be able to get both vaccines. Some people may not be eligible for COVID-19 vaccine depending on when their last immunization was. Also, only one invitation per person will be sent, whether they get one or two immunizations.

This posting includes answers to many questions we have received about the clinic, registering, and the actual vaccine.  If you have other specific questions regarding your own vaccine or appointment, please call 1-833-838-2323.

More information regarding the clinic will be sent out as received.

Thank-you to the Photographers!

More than 170 photos were sent in to TICA during the month of September to be considered for use in the upcoming 2024 Fundraising Calendar.

The selection of photos was done by a panel, with the photographers’ names withheld.

36 made it to the semi-final selection. Photos were sorted by the month taken, and each month’s picture was chosen from that group. Several of the images will be used for display purposes, while some will be used for notecards for fundraising purposes. Both of these uses are in addition to the calendar.

So many iconic views and places represented beautifully.

Any who have had their photograph selected for any of the 3 purposes will be contacted.

Thank you for sharing them,

TICA Board

FINAL CALL - Survey: Home Care Services for Seniors

In their work towards accessing health care and support for Thetis Islanders, the Forbes Hall Health Services Group is working with Island Health and other agencies towards providing community care services for island seniors. These services are provided to help our seniors stay in their own homes with the support needed to ensure a healthy and safe situation.

This brief survey investigates the challenges many seniors face in staying in their own homes, whether it be for safety or health reasons.

Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey. If a Thetis Islander you know may need assistance with the completion of this survey, please reach out to them.

No personal data, including emails, will be collected from this survey, it is simply the first step in the process.

Hallowe’en for the Little’uns – Tuesday, 31 October

Your Fire Department will again be setting up a safe and spooky

Trick-or-Treat destination for the small ghosts, cowpokes, Barbies, Super/Spider/Bat people etc. who are under ten years old on Hallowe’en night.

The Engine bay at the Fire Hall will be out of the rain and ready for parents with their little ones to come by between 6 pm to 7 pm to show off their costumes. We will go back to being just a fire hall at 7 pm.

If you don’t have children handy but want to show off your carved pumpkin artistry or have Hallowe’en treats you would like to share with our smallest residents, drop off your donations at the fire hall on Hallowe’en day, or come and help us decorate the Engine bay at 5:30 and stay to greet the children. Costumes are encouraged.

(The evening is short so the small fry and the fire fighters can get to bed early on a school night!)
