Is there a Thetis Islander who pressure washes roofs? My cabin's metal roof needs pressure washing and Blackjack does not do that.

Dunfield Market 10 - 2 This Saturday

Only about 8 pieces are left, but we have acquired some of her gorgeous glaze test sample bowls.Each one was created as she developed and perfected the colors of her pottery.These mini bowls are perfect for tea lite holders, buttons, change, or whatever you need.Only $5 each... great gifts. All funds raised go to Thetis Island Volunteer Fire Fighters. This is a perfect way to support the fire department considering the recent housefire.

Also at the market will be Hermida and Mercy with their delicious food assortments and the market will also be selling indigenous art which is highly prized.

Location: Lawrence Valley Trail - meet at the end of Mission Rd. at 9AM

Join local experts Keith Rush and Bill Dickie on the well-loved Lawrence Valley loop trail. Keith, a professional forester and avid birder, will share his knowledge of forests and point out bird species along the way. Bill, a long-time Thetis resident and steward of the trail, will share his expansive knowledge of the local landscape and a little Thetis Island history. Between the two of them, no question will go unanswered!

• Cooler temperatures Friday with some precipitation over northern areas
• By Friday, temperatures dipping below seasonal and patchy moisture stretches further south
• Increased winds over the weekend with potential for directional shift

A reminder from the TIVFD and Concerned Residents:

Throwing a lit cigarette out of a vehicle in BC violates the provincial Wildfire Act It is considered dropping or mishandling a burning substance and carries a steep fine of $575. Under the Motor Vehicle Act, a general littering violation carries a lesser $81 penalty, but the stricter wildfire penalty is applied to burning items to protect communities.

Goosey Gander Shop Report

On opening weekend over 125 items were sold to happy treasure hunters, including a vintage fox hunt horn, a Fender guitar, a ladybug mug, a horses hot pad, a miniature brass teapot and a Peetz reel and rod. Thank you to all the Shoppers who came by and to all the Vendors who have exceeded expectations again this week by restocking the Shop with at least that many more new and interesting items. Be sure to stop by and have a look. You never know what you might find!

Some of the new goodies include a cast iron mortar and pestle, a dovetail joint gauge, several blank journals, a vintage booklet of pristine Audubon Birds Postcards, a Pier One rattan chair, a new in the box Philips Sonic Care toothbrush set, more craft and stamping gear, an IKEA magnifying mirror, a whole lot of yummy looking cookbooks, and another batch of sparkly jewelry.

Please note for this weekend only the Shop will be closing a bit early on Saturday at 2pm, but open as usual 10 to 4pm on Sunday.

What’s the News at the Summer Market?

First, the sad news - Marylyn and MJ will not be at the market this Saturday as they will be attending the funeral of Marylyn’s brother and MJ’s father in the Philippines. Marylyn has stocked up the freezer with her delicious baking, so she’s been thinking about you! Anne-Marie and Gloria will be occupying her space and Anne-Marie will be offering her baking. Marylyn will be back on July 25th.

And here’s the good news. Chris will have oysters and a limited amount of clams from Limberis Seafoods. They were very popular last time, so if you want some, get there early! Chris also has a selection of health supplements from Purica - the company that produces Recovery, so check them out.

The Summer Market at Howling Wolf Farm takes place every Saturday, 10 to 2 until Labour Day.

Lost Water Storage Tank

The water storage bladder/bag that we use to refill the horse's water seems to have fell from the back of my truck between Hollyberry Lane and Howling Wolf's farm market. It is a large blue container that looks like an inflatable. It had some water in it so would be heavy to move. If you see it in the ditch or bushes on a walk or have retrieved it from the road, we would greatly appreciate it if you let us know!

2-3:30 TIME Jr: Ocean Navigation (youth 8-15)
Location: Sea Life Centre, Telegraph Harbour Marina

Young Ocean enthusiasts aged 8–15 are invited to join TIME Jr. - the junior division of the Thetis Island Marine Explorers dive club. Each week, participants help care for the residents of the Sea Life Centre's seaquarium while diving into a new marine topic, both at the SLC and out in the field. For more information about this special program, contact Maya at maya@thetisislandnatureconservancy.org

This week we're exploring ocean navigation! Learn how to use marine charts to plot a course, how tides and currents work, and more. We'll finish with a paper boat race - build your own at home and bring it along. Two rules only: the boat must be powered by natural means (wind or current) and must include a paper component somewhere. Get creative and reuse materials!
