St. Margaret’s Cemetery Board Members Request

St. Margaret’s Cemetery is looking for new board members with the hope that one will eventually take on the chair position of the cemetery in fall of 2022.

We are looking for individuals who are willing to become involved with any of the following operations: coordination of cemetery maintenance; investigating and developing a plan for the creation of a possible green cemetery component to the present cemetery; managing the business of the cemetery including being the contact person for the sale of plots and all record keeping and working with bereaved families preparing burial plots at their time of need. Those interested must have a strong commitment to ecologically sound practises in keeping with a mission of care for the earth and all its beings.

St. Margaret’s Cemetery is a registered charity and operates as a sub-committee under TIRRA (Thetis Island Resident and Ratepayers Assoc). Presently the board consists of a Chairperson, a Treasurer, a secretary plus two. The cemetery acts as a service to the residents and property owners of Thetis Island.

This is an opportunity for you to become involved with a much loved and cherished component of the Thetis Island Community. We welcome you to join us with your refreshing energy and ideas!

Please contact Suzanne 250-246-9965 or suzanne.sarioglu@gmail.com  for more information and or questions.

Thursday TSOP

On Thursday, November 11, 2021, at 5:30 pm, The Society of the Perplexed (TSOP) offers a special session focused on how our memory works.  The TSOP intention is to verify the claim that there is no such a thing as our personal memory – we all remember socially.

Further, the claim that societies with oral culture remember better will be examined for its accuracy. Nobody can be embarrassed.  It is not about how much we remember, but what we remember.

For more information please contact Johann at jcerny07@gmail.com

Final Reminder and Update about the Flu Shot Clinic

Tuesday, November 9th, 10 am to 2 pm is primarily a drop-in clinic for the flu shot.  We can't assign times, but you'll get a number when you come and you will go in the order of arrival.  Please bring your Care Card number with you.

This season's flu shot will protect you against:

    influenza A(H1N1)
    influenza A(H3N2)
    influenza B

They will also give the 1st or 2nd covid shot for anyone who has registered on-line or by phone (1-833-838-2323) specifically for this clinic.  They will also give a 3rd covid vaccination to those who bring their letter from the doctor or VIHA saying you are eligible and you have registered.  The covid shot people will be in a separate line because they will have an appointment time and have to be charted, so it takes extra time and a different nurse.  The third covid shot is only for the vulnerable (immuno suppressed) persons at this time.  VIHA was not able to organize a covid booster clinic for every Thetis Islander for Nov. 9th.

NEW INFORMATION:  Jeannine has finally got the ear of someone who can (possibly) do something about the booster shot delay, and they have said they will try to arrange a separate clinic here on Thetis for 3rd shots in December, when most of us will be eligible again (more than 6 months since the June 16 clinic).
