TICA Secures Funding for Completion of the Forbes Hall Expansion Project

The TICA Board of Directors is pleased to announce that necessary financing has been secured to complete the Forbes Hall Expansion Project.  The total amount to be borrowed for completion is $395,000, significantly less than was estimated in September 2020. The remarkable generosity of our Local Lenders, who have loaned TICA $335,000, has reduced the amount of commercial borrowing to $60,000.

After negotiations with Van City Credit Union, Coastal Community Credit Union, and the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), TICA signed a line of credit for up to $60,000 with RBC. They offered the lowest interest rate, and no fees, the least expensive, commercial-financial alternative of all three institutions.   TICA will now continue with the final stages of the project - the purchase of a generator, a rain collection system, and the final installations in the kitchen.  Funds from the line of credit will only be accessed when required.

The next step will be preparing a plan to repay the loans. Over the summer, several paths will be explored to get Back to the Black, these options will be presented to the community in the fall.

Thank you for your continued support of the Forbes Hall Community Centre,

Ron Bannister

President - Thetis Island Community Association

Organic Fish Compost

We are getting ready for another delivery (or two) of organic fish compost from Earthbank. It's already time to think about top dressing gardens for winter and their stock is running low, so we are getting our reservation in early.

Cost will be the same as the spring: $110/yard
Pick up at Jollity Farm or we can help organize a dumping trailer for larger loads.

Please contact Elisabeth at info@jollityfarm.ca or text 250.415.0101 with questions or reservation requests.

Internet Performance Test

Economic Development Cowichan is embarking on a project to better understand the state of internet connectivity in Cowichan, so that we can create a strategy to meet the connectivity needs of the region long into the future. With more and more essential services and business and community activities moving online since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has never been more important to ensure that everyone has access to the benefits that connectivity has to offer.

Today, we are introducing the Internet Performance Test (IPT), a tool that will help us monitor internet speed and quality across the region. Armed with this information, we will seek to identify areas of concern and unlock funding sources to improve connectivity in those areas. In order to build the most complete picture of the current state of internet connectivity in Cowichan, we need as many people as possible to perform internet speed tests from their home and/or workplace. I encourage you all to take the test!

We are also looking for your help to spread the word. Please share the attached news release with your followers, subscribers, colleagues, friends, family and neighbours. You may also share our social media posts here:

With your help, we can work towards a connected Cowichan where everyone has access to reliable, affordable high-speed internet.

Thank you!
