Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at 7:20AM Thetis Island Elementary School applied for and won an award last year, from the BC Retired Teachers Association called the Golden Star Award. This award is for classroom teachers that involve seniors in the education of their students. Thetis Island Elementary School has had seniors and other community members very involved in our small school for years. The Retired Teachers Association has a video link on their website that features Thetis Island Elementary School and another school that won the award.
Thank you to Kelly Bannister for putting together the video for this award.
Here is the link for the Golden Star Award video.

Sunday, November 22, 2020 at 7:25PM The Thetis Island Fire Dept. welcomes your non-perishable, non-expired packaged food items and toiletries, and new unwrapped children’s gifts, for donation to the Chemainus Heritage House Food Bank.
We will have a cardboard box next to the hand sanitizer fluid at the front door of the Firehall and will collect and store your donations daily.
A helping hand to those in need in our area will be much appreciated this season.
Last year the Food Bank was also happy to receive gift-wrapping paper as well.

Sunday, November 22, 2020 at 7:24PM Hello Neighbours,
Over that last few months we have found four deceased animals in our neighbourhood. One young doe, a mouse, a rat, and today a young female river otter curled up dead in a drainage ditch. These animals have not appeared to have sustained any visible injuries.
They’ve been found between Pilkey Point Road, lower hill and Marina Drive. Today's discovery was very sad and discouraging. I suggest that pet owners be aware, in case of the possibility of poisoning.

Sunday, November 22, 2020 at 7:23PM Hello readers!
Some catalogued Thetis Island Library books have accidentally been put into the book exchange boxes on Pilkey Point Road. The library books have a spine label and a pocket inside.
If you have one of these library books, please call me so I can straighten this out. I sure don't want to have to buy them again. One title is Maisie Dobbs.
Thank you.
Celine,

Sunday, November 22, 2020 at 7:22PM Due to the government mandate, all patrons of the marina (pub, liquor store or gas dock) are required by law to wear a mask.
Patrons not wearing a mask will be asked to wear one.
Patrons not wearing a mask/refuse to wear one will be refused service.
Thank you for your cooperation during these difficult times.
Thank you,
Melissa
Sunday, November 22, 2020 at 7:21PM Hello fellow Thetis Islanders,
Recently I have been working with a small and very dynamic team from Vancouver Island preparing an online conference entitled Advancing Natural Building & Ecological Design Colloquium
The event takes place Friday-Saturday-Sunday November 27-28-29.
Likely some people on this wonderful island that may be interested in learning more about the matter. You are welcome to check it out here: https://anbc2020.heysummit.com/
If you have any questions or simply cannot afford the ticket price, don’t let any of that prevent you from participating, please call me at 613-883-6746.
Thank you, Joel
Sunday, November 22, 2020 at 7:21PM I have a large bag of soft clean dyed fleece leftover from combing. If anyone wants it for felting, it would be perfect for making dryer balls or other felted items.
$10 for the whole bag

Sunday, November 22, 2020 at 7:20PM I'm looking for a space to rent as an art studio.
I need a dry, room with power and access to cold water. I am able to do repairs or upgrades for the right space. The ideal spot would be an unused garage or workshop with a separate entrance. This would be for day use only and I am quiet and clean.
Please call with any questions or ideas.
