TIRRA AGM March Meeting Space

Looking for a meeting space appropriate for 30 to 40 attendees for the Annual General Meeting of the Thetis Island Residents' and Ratepayers' Association.

Date: Thursday March 19th

Time: 7:00PM to 8:30PM (approx.)

Would prefer a space without cost, however, willing to discuss.

The school is an option, but not the most comfortable chairs; looking for alternate locations.

Gus Modeste: CBC & Memorial Service

Gök Sarioglu passed on this impressive and moving link to the CBC’s national article about Gus Modeste and his amazing art. There is a ceremony Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. in the elementary school on Penelakut. A Thetis presence would be great.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/gus-modeste-coast-salish-artist-1.5425662

A memorial service for Penelakut carver and artist Gus Modeste will be held at the Penelakut Elementary School at 9 am friday morning. Gus passed away in hospital late last week related to a medical condition. Gus was well-known internationally and by many people on Thetis. If you plan to attend the service, it may be helpful to know it is customary in Coast Salish culture and appreciated to discretely offer a financial contribution to the family to support the costs of hosting extended family and friends who come to honour the memory of the loved one who has passed.

Philosophers’ Café Tonight Cancelled

Given the predictions for heavier snowfall later today, and some reluctance among members, it’s been suggested that we cancel our session tonight. Please pass this information on to others. This may confirm suspicions that we are westcoast wimps, alas.
