Over the past couple of months, a team of Capernwray volunteers has been working on creating the trail on Lawrence Spring Farm.
We are now inviting any islanders that would like to help out with this work, to come and volunteer on the next two Wednesdays, Jan 18 & Jan 25.
Please meet at the trailhead just past the fire hall on Mission Road, anytime between 9:30 and 11:00AM. An hour or two of your time will contribute hugely to this project!
Remember to wear appropriate clothing for the weather, work gloves, and waterproof footwear.
Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday.
For more information, please talk with either Bill Dickie or Vicki Walker.

I was almost caught by this - they use your usual subject lines, and tailor the attachment to look legitimate.
Be really careful about opening email attachments!
North Cowichan and the Cowichan Valley Regional District have launched a new tool for collecting community input online – it’s called PlaceSpeak. PlaceSpeak provides a single stop for residents to engage with the issues that directly impact their communities. To engage on PlaceSpeak, you must first create a personalized account, which only takes a couple of minutes. All private information is protected by PlaceSpeak, which is a leader in digital privacy protection. Once you have signed up for PlaceSpeak, you will automatically be notified of new public consultations based on your chosen notification distance and interests.
To start familiarizing the community with this platform, an initial topic has been launched asking people to share favourite local highlights in the region. Share with us your favourite spot or hidden gem in the Cowichan region. Everyone is encouraged to participate by posting comments, photos or videos, or pinning your favourite locations on a map. Those who sign up by January 31 will be entered into a draw for a $100 gift certificate to the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre.
North Cowichan and the CVRD invite you to create an account and take part in online conversations about our community. Get started at:

Alex Rozewicz and I have been playing chess over the last couple of months. I'm a beginner so in truth Alex has been doing the brilliant playing and I've been doing the hard work of losing. We were wondering if there are other people who would like to play chess or would like to learn chess over these cold winter months of January, February, March.
How many people would be interested in joining an informal chess club? Also, how many people own a chess set that they could dig out of storage?
Let us know by phone or email.
